It belongs to the ad lauraceous category and its botanical name is Persea Americana. The fruit which this tree bears is known as avocado, it is 7 to 20 cm in length weighing between 100 to 1000 grams, botanically known as berry. It has a big kernel in the centre which has the diameter of about 3 to 5 cms .Fruits bear by this tree is known as avocado pear or alligator pear due to its green skin. This tree bears about 120 avocados annually. Tropical or temperate climates provides the best climatic conditions to grow and can be grown in sub tropics and equatorial weather conditions.

The avocado oil is very beneficial. It is a rich source of macronutrients. The eatable pulp of avocado contains 8 % to 30 % of non-drying oil. This oil is obtained by pressing the flesh with the help of expeller which is similar to the contraction of almond oil. It is the best source of vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin D, vitamin E,ammino acids, sternols, pantothenicacid and lacithin.
